Food & Flavors
The food and flavors industry handle a lot of powders during the production of their products. The constant dumping, mixing, blending, sifting and packaging create numerous opportunities for dust to be released into the facility. Many of these dust are explosive and when allowed to accumulate within the facility present dust explosion hazards. Designing industrial ventilation systems for the food and flavors industry requires knowledge of MIE (minimum ignition energy) that could potentially ignite the dust. Some dusts can be ignited by static electricity generated by the friction of air moving through the duct system. Other concerns relate to wash down procedures and the maintenance of the ventilation equipment when switching product production.
When dealing with explosive dust other considerations need attention. If air is being returned into the building abort gates and HEPA filters are required if chemical suppression is not used. Isolation gates should be installed on the duct exiting the building. The duct should be grounded to eliminate static electricity and any flexible hose connections should be static dissipative. Industrial ventilation design requires the knowledge of the National Fire Protection Administration (NFPA) codes that pertain to explosive dust and the recommendations that should be considered in the design.
The OSHA requires that all industrial and commercial plants have a well-functioning air filtration and ventilation system in place. Therefore, to control and/or eliminate those aforementioned health issues, it is recommended that you utilize cartridge collectors, dust collectors, industrial ventilation systems, and explosive dust collection solutions to ensure the highest quality of clean air in the work environment.
At Clean Air Company, we understand air filtration and ventilation like no other. We absolutely do not sell you products that you do not need, and that’s why we will carry out an onsite survey to help determine the most appropriate filtration and ventilation systems for your specific work environment.
