NY legislators aim to provide cancer coverage for volunteer firefighters

A bill sponsored by Senator Michael Nozzolio  and Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther to provide presumptive cancer coverage of the state’s volunteer fire fighting force.  Over 92,000 volunteer firefighters who are at greater risk of developing cancer would be covered under the legislation.

The bill was approved by the state Senate but did not advance out of committee.

The bill would allow coverage for several types of cancer that can be linked to firefighting, Studies have found firefighters have a significantly higher risk of testicular, esophageal, intestinal, and breast cancer among others.

And this legislation needs your help to survive.  Contact your Assembly Person and your Senator and tell them how important this legislation is to you and your families.

The Fireman’s Association of the State of New York launched the Firefighters Fighting Cancer Campaign to Raise awareness and unveiled a video featuring firefighters who have survived cancer.
