Grant Information

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, established in 2001, authorized FEMA to make grant awards directly to the fire and emergency service for the purpose of enhancing fire prevention programs, personnel safety equipment and address fire related hazards.

We are happy to assist departments with their grant application for the purpose of protecting their personnel from the documented health hazards associated with diesel exhaust. Simply fill out the self survey application form and fax it back to us. A grant application specialist will than contact you. We will assist you with you grant narrative development and the dollar funding request.

Clean Air Company has been promoting the grant program since its inception. We attend the Congressional Service banquet dinner of which PlymoVent is a proud sponsor. We walk the halls of Congress with your fellow fire fighters requesting support for increase funding for the program. In 2008 over 3 billion dollars was requested in grants of which only 560 million in funding was authorized. Less than 17% of the total dollars requested could be awarded. This program is only authorized up to 2010 and after that is anybody’s guess.

Now is the time to begin lobbying your local congressman to support the reauthorization of this bill past 2010 with an increase in funding. Since the grant program began a total of 86 million has been awarded directly to departments in New Jersey and 502 million in New York. In 2008 there were just over 21,000 applications submitted; 618 from New Jersey & 1315 from New York. Clean Air assisted approximately 10% of these departments with their application and has almost a 30% success rate. Not a bad ratio considering only 17% gets funded!
